Alissa Brown has been dancing for roughly 20 years of her life. As a young girl she grew up under the direction of Christy Curtis, owner and director of CC & Co Dance Complex and danced under such names as Jason Parsons, Lauren Adams, Mandy Moore, Dee Caspary, Wes Veldink and many more. In college she was president of the UNCW Dance Company where she continued her dance training and dabbled in choreography. After a short stint living in London and finishing her bachelors degree, she moved back home to Raleigh where she was born and raised. Alissa has loved finding her passion grow for dance as she continues to dance alongside and be a part of Defero Dance Collective. Outside of dance, Alissa works in marketing at NetApp in RTP, NC and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Andrea Phares
, a Raleigh native, began dancing at Pierrette Sadler Dancers (currently known as CC & Co) at the age of three. She feels so fortunate that her time with this studio allowed her to study under a variety of well-respected choreographers and travel throughout the country to compete. Andrea received her B.S. in Biology from Elon University in 2009. From 2005-2006, she was a member of the Elon Dance Team, where she was had the opportunity to co-choreograph a number for the 2006 Basketball season. Following graduation, Andrea joined the Defero Dance Collective until attending Virginia Commonwealth University in Fall 2010 to complete her Master's in Forensic Science, with a concentration in Forensic DNA. Andrea is currently residing once again in Raleigh, NC and working at Duke as a Lab Research Analyst in the Department of Pathology. She is so happy to be back and dancing with several girls she has known for a lifetime!



Crystal West, a Raleigh native, is a PMA® Certified Pilates instructor, dance teacher, and performer. She completed the 950+ hour Pilates Center Teacher Training program at InsideOut Body Therapies after experiencing the transformative nature of pilates on her own body and movement quality. Crystal has been dancing, teaching, choreographing, and performing her entire life, and is honored to have studied with many well known and respected artists. She grew up dancing in Raleigh under the instruction of Christy Curtis and was a guest artist at the Boston Conservatory during her four year stay in Boston, MA. She currently teaches dance for CC & Co Dance Complex in North Raleigh and pilates at InsideOut Body Therapies. She holds a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in English from UNC Chapel Hill and worked as a software engineer for 10 years. When Crystal isn't in the dance studio or on the Reformer, you can find her spending time with her husband, Jeffrey, and their children, Owen and Evelyn, in Chapel Hill. She is a founding member of Defero and is so grateful for her family of dancers and opportunities to grow and create with them.


Katherine Seymour graduated from Elon University where she earned a degree in Education with Spanish and Dance minors. She discovered her love for dance at a young age and began company instruction at 7. Katherine trained with Christy Curtis for 8 years and was also privileged to study at professional studios in LA and NY and work with many of the industry's well-known artists. During her high school years, Katherine performed in and choreographed for musicals and talent shows at Millbrook High School. Other performance credits include productions with the Teen Arts Program, the Carolina Art's Festival, NC Theatre, and Theatre in the Park. Katherine was a member of the Dance Team while at Elon, performed with the Elon Dancers and co-choreographed her sorority's routines for Greek Dance Week. She lived in Escazu, Costa Rica where she taught third grade at the Blue Valley School. Katherine danced and trained at the Warehouse Dance Center in Escazu and performed with members of their professional company. She is currently in graduate school at NC State, teaching on the side and dancing whenever possible!



Liz Heafner is from Raleigh, NC and began her life as a dancer at the age of three. Liz grew up dancing under the instruction of Christy Curtis at Pierrette Sadler Danceurs until graduating from Broughton High School in 2003. During her time with Christy, Liz was fortunate enough to study under many talented and renowned choreographers such as Jason Parsons, Lauren Adams, Mia Michaels, Dee Caspary, and Nick Bass. Upon graduating high school, Liz attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a B.A. in Peace, War, and Defense and then went on to North Carolina State University where she received her Master of International Studies. While an undergraduate at UNC-CH Liz, was a four year member of the Dance Team, which finished in the top ten at the collegiate national championships each year. Upon graduating from UNC-CH, Liz accepted the position of Assistant Coach with UNC's Dance Team and continues to work with the program today. Outside of the dance world, Liz works at SAS in Cary, NC as a Database Marketing Analyst and loves her career. Liz is extremely thankful for Defero and all of its members for the added joy it brings to her life!


Molly Sink started dancing at the age of three under the instruction of Christy Curtis. Throughout the years at CC & Company Dance Complex, Molly has been able to work with many talented artists including Lauren Adams, Mandy Moore, Jason Parsons, Travis Wall, Peter Chu, and Stacey Tookey. During highschool, Molly assisted in choreography and participated in some of the musicals including The Wiz, Annie, and Rodger and Hammersteins Cinderella. Molly is currently a senior studying Business Administration-Human Resources at North Carolina State University. During her time at NC State, Molly has performed and choreographed for the club, DanceLife. After her return from studying abroad in Vienna, Austria in Spring 2014, Molly was eager to get back to dancing with Defero Dance Collective. When she is not dancing, you can find Molly spending time with family or friends or cheering on the Wolfpack. She is so thankful to be apart of Defero and can't wait to see how it will grow in the next few years!




Nicole Pittman started dancing at age 4 in Wilmington, NC. At age 5, she began dancing competitively and continued until she graduated High school. During her time as a competition dancer, she won numerous awards including scholarships to L.A and NC School of the Arts. In addition to competition dance, Nicole also stared as a double in the movie Ya Ya Sisterhood, a dance extra in the TV series East Bound and Down, the title of Teen Miss Dance of SC and several productions at Wilmington’s Thallian Hall. After high school Nicole continued her education as a Dance Performance major at East Carolina University. While studying at ECU she had the opportunity to attend Jazz Dance World Congress in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and perform in Chicago for Inaside Dance Company. Following graduation, Nicole had the opportunity to perform in New York City for the ACE Awards. Nicole currently teaches at CC & Company Dance Complex.





Samantha Russell Like many of Defero’s company members, Samantha also grew up training under Christy Curtis and the many brilliantly talented, well-known instructors she brings into the Raleigh area each year.  Sam studied dance at Purchase College, State University of New York from 2007-2008.  She completed her undergraduate training at Appalachian State University in 2011 and now holds two Bachelors degrees in Technical Photography and Dance Studies.  As a new resident of New Haven, CT, Sam makes her career as a classically trained Pilates instructor (certified with 600+ hours), dance teacher, choreographer and performer.  Aside from her work with Defero she is also a new member of Connecticut’s Elm City Dance Collective (ECDC).   Samantha finds herself grateful for the Internet and Google Hangout that allow her to cyberly rehearse with her Defero family from her living room in CT!





Sarah Reynolds began dancing at the age of 10 at CC and Company Dance Complex, joining the competition team for eight years. She continued to train there as well as at her high school, Cardinal Gibbons under the eyes of Christy Curtis and Brooks Owens. She currently attends Elon University, Class of 2017, and studies Human Services with a concentration in International Youth Development. However not a part of the dance program, Sarah has been in two shows through the dance program with the opportunity presented through an open audition. Sarah also teaches tap, ballet, and jazz to children of all ages at Amber's House of Dance in Burlington, NC.







Tiffany Gay is from Raleigh, NC and grew up dancing under the instruction of Christy Curtis at CC & Company Dance Complex. During her time at CC & Company, Tiffany was privileged to study under many renowned choreographers such as Jason Parsons, Lauren Adams, Mandy Moore, Mia Michaels, Wes Veldink, Dee Caspary and Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo. Tiffany graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011 with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication and a double-minor in Spanish and Philosophy and is a founding member of Defero Dance Collective. Following graduation, Tiffany worked in arts administration at Carolina Performing Arts in Chapel Hill. She now lives in Greenville, NC with her husband, Matt, and works in event management and branding at Uptown Greenville. She can often be found on US 264 making her way to Raleigh for dance rehearsals and to spend time with her family.
